Frank Gehry’s GTeam 3D Modeling Platform
When I saw the pilot demo of architect Frank Gehry’s long-term goal to bring 3D Modeling—which is the basis for many of his renowned, contoured projects—to a cloud environment last October in New York City, I wondered how the new technology would hold up under commercial use.
In reaching Gehry Technologies’ Los Angeles office, I got the answer:
Company partners with Gehry Technologies to improve collaboration around BIM 3D models

Excerpt from Mark Magazine article:
Over the last decade or so we have heard the buzz of parametric design and experimented with the physical possibilities that come with digital fabrication. There is no question that our primary push forward lies in research labs and institutes synthesizing new materials and scripting new algorithms for generative or morphogenetic design. We have dipped our feet into the sea of what digital architecture can be, but we are still in the experimental phase.
Frank Gehry has made quite an impact on the architecture industry, and Gehry Technologies, a company born from the research and development team of Gehry Partners in 2002, is on track to living up to the Gehry legacy with its new BIM tools it has released and acquired.

When Marc Benioff launched its web-hosted CRM software Salesforce.com in 1999, he ruffled more than a few feathers by declaring "The End of Software." Benioff's eulogy for traditional shrink-wrapped software — the kind that you need to install in a desktop or laptop computer in order to operate — may have been a bit premature.

'Most Important Architect' Puts 3D Models in Mobile Cloud
For more than two decades the architecture-engineering-construction (AEC) industry was an IT laggard. This was especially true when compared to other industries, including the cottage one called Hollywood.
The 8 Spruce Street skyscraper, designed by architect Frank Gehry, now stands as one of the most distinctive features of the Manhattan skyline. The 1.1 million-square-foot building (originally known as Beekman Tower and currently marketed as “New York by Gehry”) is predominantly residential, although the lower stories house a city public school and office space for the New York Downtown Hospital. Measuring at 870 feet in height, the tower is the tallest of its kind in North America.
The BIM (building information modeling) technology market has seen quite a bit of movement as of late. Trimble’s acquisition of SketchUp and Autodesk’s acquisition of Vela Systems are two examples this year alone. But it isn’t just the big tech players that are making all the moves.
Gehry Technologies is a spinoff of the architecture firm founded by Frank Gehry, a pioneer in using digital technologies to plan his buildings. Gehry is known for the curved, rippling facades of buildings like the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, and the Experience Music Project in Seattle.
BIM Data Solution Provides Easiest Way to Share
3D Models on Desktop and Mobile Devices
Los Angeles, Calif. – July 24, 2012 – Gehry Technologies (GT), a global leader in applying technology to building industry challenges, today announced it has completed the acquisition of Bimshare, an innovative, privately-held company based in the Netherlands. On the heels of launching its 3D collaboration platform, GTeam™, GT is expanding its cloud-based service offerings with this acquisition. Bimshare offers a popular building information modeling (BIM) data sharing solution that provides the easiest way to upload and share 3D models online through browsers on desktop or mobile devices. Through its elegant and easy interface Bimshare enables architects, building owners, contractors, fabricators, and engineers to quickly and securely share BIM data on demand. A SaaS-based solution, Bimshare is a natural addition to GT’s BIM collaboration strategy focused on the AEC industry. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
When Frank Gehry planted his shapely Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, he changed the field of architecture forever.
Gehry Technologies, a software company created by architect Frank Gehry to develop and apply technology to the building industry, today announced the free preview availability of GTeam, a cloud-based 3D, file management and project collaboration platform purpose-built for AEC industry professionals and building owners.
Gehry Technologies' new browser-based tool is designed to bring architects, contractors, and building owners a little closer together — even if they're all using different software.
Gehry Technologies is offering a free preview of its new cloud-based 3D file-management and project collaboration platform. Until Sept. 30, anyone can try out the service, which GT calls the first web-based viewer developed specifically for use by the building team.
GTeam could be the web-based project tool the industry wanted 15 years ago. Searching clash reports by time is only one of the novel things it can do.
Make it Right is proud to announce the completion of the Frank Gehry-designed, New Orleans’ duplex in the Lower 9th Ward. The colorful, LEED Platinum home is part of an affordable and sustainable community that is currently being developed by Brad Pitt’s Make It Right foundation within the NOLA neighborhood most devastated from Hurricane Katrina.

Frank Gehry attributes part of his success to 3D technology that allows buildings to be simulated before a brick is laid
"Frank Gehry has transformed the face of architecture. From the titanium-clad Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao to the Seattle Centre’s EMP Museum and the residential Opus Hong Kong, his use of materials has been innovative, and he attributes part of his success to an increasingly well-used computer program.
